It's difficult for Australia to achieve unprecedented feats.

The top summits have long been mastered.

We're talking about the team that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, along with an additional six T20 titles, and earlier maintained 1,294 days undefeated in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, the ones sought by the achievement hunters, are the only things left for a squad that has won it all.

That it took until Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to accomplish their maiden ODI chase exceeding 300, regaining their record for the highest in the female 50-over format, is, frankly, a tribute to the pitchers that have sported the yellow jersey over five decades.

It's difficult for their batters to possess a record if never given the chance.

In the end, the outcome of Australia giving up 330 runs was captain Alyssa Healy getting a chance to deliver her most recent brilliance.

Originally famous as the 19-year-old niece of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after her country didn't secure either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups held the previous year and has experienced everything through 15 trophy-laden years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup came three months after her first appearance and seven world titles have followed from 10 efforts across formats.

The determined wicketkeeper was also there in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final defeat by India momentarily interrupted the winning streak.

That loss "motivated us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy stated recently.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the title decider and was declared player of the series. She guaranteed her country would not fall short again.

The question of whether this latest epic knock surpassed that earlier display remains open for discussion.

Some will argue the case for championship match pressure. Different voices suggest with the test that comes when confronting a historic chase and an enthusiastic Indian fanbase of 20,000.

What's clear is this century was considerably tougher to anticipate.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 came as she was the highest scorer, but this innings followed six innings in India since the start of last month in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"For those following me in practice sessions, it's been a frustrating experience because I feel like my form was missing completely," stated Healy.

"Yet the moment you step out on the field, your competitive instincts activate and you simply focus on the competition."

Healy's competitive nature has consistently been her great strength - and an irreplaceable characteristic in taking over from famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, fallen to the 22-year-old seamer in each encounter, but here that only provided Healy's spark.

One run resulted off the bowler's initial ball and from there the right-hander was on her way.

"An opportunity to go out there and face the challenge with her and merely enjoy the moment that way, sort of got me going," commented Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 deliveries - her quickest at the World Cup - and her century in 84 balls as she punished short deliveries, scoring 21 fours and three big hits.

By the time she was out Australia required another 66 at one run per ball - an achievable target now requiring a leisurely stroll.

"Chasing 330 runs is new territory so I'm pleased we have the assurance to do that now," continued Healy.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to do it another time but, if necessary, we are confident we can achieve it."

Those words will be the ultimate thing Australia's opponents at this championship need to hear.

Over the past five days a feeling they will win from any position has grown stronger - this victory succeeding win against Pakistan by 107-run victory despite being 76-7 at one point.

Subsequently Australia meet Bangladesh before a meeting with traditional opponents England in Indore in 10 days, by which point a semi-final place may likely be confirmed.

It was at that stage they exited the prior year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - a game Healy missed because of damaged tissue in her foot as she led her country for the inaugural occasion at a major tournament.

So great is her will, she afterwards commented she regretted not playing with the discomfort.

Yet even as she later admitted those injuries have pushed back thoughts of retirement, this World Cup is expected to be her concluding event as leader in 50-over cricket and she is hasn't yet secured a world championship as leader.

Victory in India would take her to the summit of her final mountain.
